I sincerely hope Dirk Benedict never reads this manga. His delicate sensibilities could never survive. Particularly one scene in volume 3.

Still more style and violence over substance, but in a very entertaining way.

I’m not positive, but wasn’t the first half of volume 2 the final arc of the first anime series? It’s been a while, but I seem to remember that the anime ended with an army of ghouls attacking the mansion when she was at a meeting. Though that ended with her pinned down and being rescued by Alucard.

So, Walter was the trashman of the Order of the Royal Protestant Knights? Does that mean he was basically Alucard, but without superpowers?

I kind of think Seras having to train the mercenaries is one of the best things ever. Mostly because she isn’t allowed to fight them with more than finger flicks.

And there really are Nazis! Nazi ghouls! You told me, but I don’t think I quite believed you! (It wasn’t intentional doubt, I promise.)

Alucard has a serious “master” complex, doesn’t he? I particularly liked the bit where he showed up to try to kill Maxwell because Maxwell called Integra a sow. Which led to Anderson and Alucard about to have a shootout in a museum, only to be thwarted by Seras and tourists.

Actually, I take it back. Seras taking big strong mercenaries down with finger flicks wasn’t the best thing ever. Intregra asking for a cigar, taking a few puffs, and then ordering Alucard to take down everyone in his path when he challenged her was.

Also, I think Alucard wore a pimp suit, but I forgot about it when the guy with exploding playing cards showed up.

The last arc of the TV series was pretty much entirely made up for the show. I'm not sure if any aspects of it were in the manga.

I distinctly remember Integra being in a meeting and the mansion being attacked by some sort of monster, which I THINK were zombies. But that could have been earlier, or the only elements that made it there. I'm also thinking about the first series. I haven't seen the more recent one yet.

Yes, I know - the new series was supposedly made for the express purpose of following the manga very closely. I don't think they're ever actually going to finish it, though. ;_;

I really do have to get around to reading past the first volume of this. I think part of the problem for me getting around to it is that Integra and Alucard's incredibly sexy voices are part of what makes the series for me.

But it is terribly sexy.

Dirk Benedict...that's the guy who thinks that women don't like superheroes and that they need to be behind the kitchen counter?

No. The one who thinks women should have women's roles, and men should have mens, and never the twain shall meet. The glass ceiling of fiction must remain intact or the world will end.

You know, the original Starbuck guy who says it's OK and awesome for men to smoke cigars, flirt, fly fighter jets and drink, but women can't.

AH! That dude.

Hah. I'd like to see his face while reading Hellsing

Oh, I think so too, absolutely!

....our ideas of woman's roles and men's roles may differ, though. Mine tends to be: WHATEVER IS AWESOME.

That guy is such a caricature I don't know whether to snicker or give him an internet middle finger.

And there really are Nazis! Nazi ghouls!

Don't forget the shota-tastic Nazi werewolf!

I'm not sure i've reached the shota-tastic Nazi werewolf. If i have, i was blinded by Alucard's pimp suit, and how I initially wondered if it was him or Father Maxwell.

You may not have met him yet...I can't remember which volume he shows up in. Have you met the chubby otaku Nazi leader already? He and shota!wolfie show up around the same time, IIRC.

Chubby Nazi leader showed up at the end of Vol 3, though I don't think his otakuness has shown through yet.

Right, then...I think shota!wolf will be showing up in Vol. 4. He's rather memorable, in a cracktastic sort of way.

Yeah, shota!wolf shows up after Nazi guy, because I didn't reach him, or just barely reached him.

This is making me want to pick up Hellsing again, though. That and when [livejournal.com profile] threewalls spoiled me for the ending.

Awww, sounds like you quit reading just when things began to get REALLY demented... ;)

I got distracted by something else shiny, IIRC. Alas, there is so much shiny.

I adore the Anderson and Alucard almost shootout, it makes me laugh so hard each time, most of all the bit where they both agree that the spark has gone out of the fight because the tourists are everywhere.

YES! All that snapping and revving up for it...and then Seras goes and completely ruins it. And neither seems particularly upset about that.

I think that's when I just fell in love with the manga, that sense of fun is what won me over. Also, how can you not love Alucard in a pimp suit? That man's sense of style is crazy.
