Marian finally really clicked for me somehow early in this season. That actually somehow makes me sad, since I know how the season ends. I think I was counting on the lack of attachment to make that particular plot development a bit easier.

Also, even though the new Night Watchman outfit is marginally more suitable for the period (not that the series is remotely concerned about that) I miss Marian’s Medieval Emma Peel getup. And I think this outfit actually makes “Hey look! Breasts!” even more obvious than the first.

Speaking of black leather, Richard Armitage is still working the black leather and smouldering looks to almost sinful degrees. A pity it’s pretty packaging covering a rather sad gift. Season 1 Guy came across as someone who could have been decent but went down the wrong path, but whose last bit of decency was still struggling in there. Season 2 Guy is really just kind of pitiful and weak. And a lot dumber. Not that Guy was very bright to start with. I blame the script, as I know Armitage can do much better.

Also, I wish Richard Armitage and Lucy Griffiths weren’t quite so pretty together. I tend to be watching along and snarking in my head and then I start just looking at the pretty people in so-totally-anachronistic-it-hurts-but-there’s-leather clothing and “Oooo…pretty!” takes over my brain for a few moments and then I get slapped with the “Oh no bad creepy stalkery do not want!” that’s their entire relationship.

You know, something else could take Robin/Marian/Guy and make it interesting and compelling with the heroine completely in love with one man but trapped in a situation where she has to pretend to care about his enemy, while wanting to save both, but this show sacrifices the potential by making the NO BAD WRONG CREEPY STALKERY DO NOT WANT!!! supposedly sexy and appealing. It would be bad enough if I hadn’t learned from The Hathor Legacy that the creators think that they would be something wrong if we weren’t supposed to read Marian as being drawn to Guy, especially in Season 2.

Robin, meanwhile, seems to have improved. Doing away with the stupid “I don’t kill! No really!” thing helped a lot. He also seems less smug than he did before, but I still find him significantly less appealing than I do his men.

I continue to love Djaq, but wish they gave her more to do than be smart and put people in their place anytime she thinks they’re being sexist. She gets moments with the Allan plotline and when Will’s father died, and gets treated as an equal by the gang, but doesn’t seem to get as many moments as the others do. The hints of romance with her and Will and the barely-there Allan/Djaq/Will triangle are also much better done than the main romantic plotlines of the series. So far, at least.

I’m not sure what I think of Allan’s traitor plotline, and his joining Guy and the Sheriff. I guess I’ll make up my mind about that. But didn’t we do “there’s a traitor in Robin’s gang!” in Season 1? Though it does bode well that it never seems to have occurred to him to betray Marian (he actually seems genuinely offended that anyone would think that, and I’m not sure he even likes Marian that much) or do anything that would result in the others dying. In his head, at least. I don’t think Allan quite thinks the way most people do. Also, Joe Armstrong can’t quite work the leather like Richard Armitage can (“upgrade him to leather” indeed) but his go at it isn’t really anything to be ashamed of.

*sighs* I have both season one and two, and I can't bring myself to watch, because I love Marian, and I just can't deal with another female character I love being killed off.

Though I've heard I would ADORE Djaq. Maybe I should just watch everything before Marian dies.

I think a large part on why I held off on loving Marian was not wanting the heartbreak. It was self-defense.

I think loving Djaq is a law.

Everybody loves Djaq. She's fantastic :P
(Until they watch a certain scene in the season finale, but we'll leave that until we get to it. xD)

I really don't think Allan had much of a choice in the whole 'betraying-Robin' thing. It's been awhile since I watched series two, but wasn't he tortured?

Guy = pussy. Sorry, but he is. Good looking, but a wimp and a creep.

Marian... one of more liked female TV characters. I wept in the series two finale. OMG CARTER. ;_;

Yes, Allan was captured and tortured, and they didn't know about it because they thought he was off gambling or something, and Guy used that to get him to agree, but it was his own greed that made him keep coming back. I don't really hold it TOO much against him because he was captured and his brother also died at least partly because because of Robin (not Ribin's fault at all, but connected) and the concept of loyalty is new to him, but it was still mostly his own weakness that made him do it.

Guy really is a twit in a pretty package.
