Over the last few days, I've read both Saundra Mitchell's Shadowed Summer and Novala Takemoto's Kamikaze Girls.  Both are short, excellent, have very strong voices and compelling narrators, strongly recommended on any merit, and both are heavily focused on a friendship between two girls.  (Proper writeups to come.  I'm currently about 3 weeks behind, when I could still read at work.)

I feel spoiled and am mildly concerned that anything else I pick up right now will be disappointing.

I really enjoyed Kamikaze Girls and the movie (though I really hate the US title). Figuring out which friends I could successfully lend them to has been challenging, though!

Just bought Kamikaze Girls a few weeks ago. Haven't read it yet, I'm in the middle of Crime & Punishment right now, but I am looking forward to it. I have heard nothing but good things about it.

I'm tempted to read Kamikaze Girls, though I really have no interest in seeing the movie.

kamikaze girls was a cotton candy blast.

I have the movie and the manga adaptation of it, and I read the novel eons ago when I was still working in a bookstore. But yes, Ichigo and Momoko are such a great pair.

Yay! I am so happy you agree with me on the total awesomeness of Shadowed Summer.

I loved Shadowed Summer too, but haven't read Kamikaze Girls--thanks for the suggestion!

I didn't realise there was a novel. I'll have to look for that.
