Over the last few days, I've read both Saundra Mitchell's Shadowed Summer and Novala Takemoto's Kamikaze Girls. Both are short, excellent, have very strong voices and compelling narrators, strongly recommended on any merit, and both are heavily focused on a friendship between two girls. (Proper writeups to come. I'm currently about 3 weeks behind, when I could still read at work.)
I feel spoiled and am mildly concerned that anything else I pick up right now will be disappointing.
