From now until March 6, bookcloseouts.com has Tokyopop msngs on sale for 99 cents each. The selection is a bit random, but the price makes it worthwhile to check out things you might pass on normally.
Of course, this puts a crimp in my plans to have the manga backlog wiped out by A-Kon...
I was going to tell you about this. I picked up the first two volumes of the (only) yuri series they're selling for $6 and change (which included shipping). XD
Steady Beat is about a girl who finds out her sister is a lesbian. It's American manga, and I was going to pick it up earlier but I wasn't sure if the f/f would carry all the way through the series.
But IIRC the third volume got axed due to the recent Tokyopop restructuring, right? I hate getting into a series and never getting to finish it (WAAAAHH OFF*BEAT*).
Wow, there's some good stuff on there! Never Give Up is a really cute series.. If only shipping wasn't so expensive, and if only I didn't already have too many books!
So I bought like, 20 volumes yesterday morning but I'm kind of wanting to buy more. At prices like this, I really have nothing to feel guilty about.....right?!
Mostly stuff I didn't want to read, but I *still* found a dozen things that were interesting enough to buy. Too bad none of them are the titles I need for my frigging thesis, almost none of which my library has! Gah, that's going to be expensive.
It's (supposed to be) about why and when translated manga in the US preserves the use of Japanese honorific and &c. suffixes (e.g. -san/-sama/-chan) as opposed to translating them into other terms (Ms./etc.) or leaving them out. It's not coming along so well because it's a last-ditch effort to rescue my first master's degree, which I had gone on leave from, so I don't have access to much in the way of academic resources or support. Meep! But I'm trying...
Too cool! Anything you need help with? I wrote my senior paper on Princess Tutu, which is much more anime-related, but I have various manga reference things floating around too. And if you need manga I've got, I'll loan 'em to you for the cost of shipping; god knows I need SOME way to clear shelf space short of getting rid of things I love. You might also try manga_talk if you haven't already.
30 volumes for $38.70 is a deal even Shadawyn can't get mad at me about. ;D Plus it gave us six volumes of Fruits Basket. For a total of... um... six. :\
