So, in the middle of a “I shall expire on the spot if Jin is not Sachie’s father!” spell, Yukie showed up and it was “OMG WHAT NO! NO MOM FAKING DEATH NO BAD!” And then common sense kicked in just before they revealed that it was her ghost. The whole thing, of course, made “I shall expire on the spot if Jin is not Sachie’s father!” ten times worse. Of course, should that be the case, there will no doubt be a mass explosion from the cast, for various reasons.
Aside from that chapter, though, this volume was bit slow. I’m not really interested in Azuma’s third-wheel status, and that and his angsting over it was the main focus of the middle of the volume. I’m reading for Sachie and Rakuto and totally inaccurate yakuza and getting all the bodyguard/princess kinks without having to put up with overwrought melodrama. I was initially worried that Chigusa would wind up as another suitor (and her teacher, at that!) but the series thankfully doesn’t seem to be going that direction. I find it a bit hard to believe that he could pass as close to Sachie’s age when they were younger when he’s eight years older than she is, but kind of like how the entire student body seems to see him as a cute little teddy bear to be loved and protected and cuddled. Though I think I’d like it more if they were like that even after seeing his “dark” side.
And since the manga wrapped up in Japan with volume 10, that means we’re halfway there. Whee! I gave the series 7-8 volumes before it started running out of steam, so that’s about right, given that it seems to be headed for Angst and Revelations before long.
