manhwa: You're So Cool Vol 3

I have realized that the reason I like this despite the “alpha jerk shoujo hero bullies perky heroine” thing that I usually hate so much is that it makes me think that Kyo and Yuya from Samurai Deeper Kyo somehow ended up in a high school shoujo. And…err…SDK has a canon high school AU? Except the grabbiness is exchanged for evil genius gangster-ness.
But really, where else do you know it’s true love because the guy sees the girl being bullied through a window and has an internal monologue that goes from wondering why she makes it easy for people to pick on her to wondering what’s up with a girl who throws trash cans at people to swearing death and carnage on the bully when he grabs her wrist? Meanwhile, a roomful of people is cowering in terror. Then you add the height difference and flat-chested comments and the fact that the entire universe thinks Nan-Woo can control Seung-Ha’s moods, and the comparisons won’t go away even when I want them to.
But back to the actual manhwa!
Jae-Young is Nan-Woo’s mother? Seriously? I…uhm…never would have guessed that was a woman. (The SDK comparison in my head tell me that she and Akari would have an utterly fabulous time together). And Jae is HER brother, not Nan-Woo’s? That may be the most amusingly messed up family ever. I’m pretty sure Seung-Ha can handle it, but I’m not sure about Hyun-Ho. Hyun-Ho still has to get used to the idea of liking a guy, after all. He and Jay must be the second squishiest slash pairing ever, the first being Maora and Maguri in The Gentlemen’s Alliance. Though I’m a bit surprised at how big the age difference there is.
And all the tests to see if Seung-Ha is worthy of being Nan-Woo’s boyfriend! That could end up being the scariest mother-in-law ever.
And Seung-Ha’s jealousy over Nan-Woo makes him assign everyone to the worst athletic teams for the athletic meet! That amused me far more than it really should have. As does the fact that it makes perfect sense for him to think she might fall for someone else who bullies her, since she still likes him.
I clearly have issues.
Speaking of issues, I really hope Seung-Ha’s issues don’t end up being the First Love or Evil Parents. I demand more to explain this behavior.
