meganbmoore: (damsel in distress)
When she was 4, Bryn’s parents were killed by a rabid werewolf, and she was adopted by the Alpha of the werewolves who raised her. Raised as a member of the Pack but not a werewolf herself, Bryn seems to have been raised on a steady diet of alpha pheromones and testosterone. She turned out remarkably well-adjusted, all things considered.

Anyway, the wolves start keeping a secret and she shamelessly lies and emotionally manipulates her way into learning that the “secret” is Chase, a teenaged boy kept in a cage in the basement of Callum, the Alpha wolf who saved her. (Sadly “boy in a cage in the basement” isn’t as fun as it sounds, what with said boy being rather dull and all.) Learning his secrets leads to Bryn’s beginning to question everything she thought she knew about her past. And road trips.

Bryn is awesome and there’s tons of snark. And she’s possibly more alpha than any of the men. But while there’s some interesting things done with werewolves, the end result has more than a bit of logicfail regarding the nature of werewolves.

But this may be the deciding factor for a lot of readers: The big strong controlling alpha men think the best way to protect delicate teeny girls is to put them through rigorous combat training and arm them to the teeth so they can beat up and/or shoot and/or stab anyone who tries anything without permission.
