Of Swords and Parasols

I pulled out my long-neglected Brothers Grimm DVD due to Matt Damon, Heath Ledger, Lena Headey and fairy tales. While half-watching, I have made several observations:

1. It is very pretty.
2. It focuses on a pair of siblings with what could be called an overly involved relationship.
3. It has lots of fairy tale motifs and riffs.
4. The main female character is awesome. The others are evil or victims.
5. It has imagery that is beautiful, weird, disturbing, and funny. Sometimes simultaneously. Sometimes you aren’t entirely certain which of the above it’s meant to be.
6. It possibly involves necrophilia.
7. There is crossdressing.
8. One villain is obsessed with beauty and uses magic and manipulation and steals the youth and beauty of young girls. The other is evil to be evil.
9. There’s one character where it seems everyone is either in love with them, fixated on them, or wants to be them. Or at least steal their beauty.
10. The ending is on the polyamorous side.

My conclusion: It was written by a Kaori Yuki fan.
