Agatha Christie's Marple 6.1: "A Caribbean Mystery": Pretty good adaptation overall. Once I got used to the extreme liberties this series takes (my favorite in this one when it jut randomly introduces Ian Fleming in a bit role), it became pretty near and dear to me. I am a bit confused, though, as Nemesis, whose plot is largely dependent on the death of a character in a Caribbean Mystery, was adapted in an earlier episode of the series, back in the Geraldine McEwan days, and I'm pretty sure the McEwan and McKenzie episodes are still considered part of the same series. Oh well. On a superficial note, it took me about 20 minutes to realize that Charity Wakefield was playing Molly, as blonde hair makes her look very very different.

Agatha Christie's Marple 6.2 "Greenshaw's Folly": If I've read the short story this is based on, it's been changed enough that I don't recognize it. That said, aside from a few "No! Stop traumatizing the abused little boy!" moments, I liked this one a lot. Fiona Shaw! Julia Swalhala! Julia McKenzie! Judy Parfitt! And...other perfectly fine actors and actresses. The mysteries and twists were rather standard for Christie (and, admittedly, I shudder a bit to think of how many adaptations of her stuff I've watched at this point), but but I thought they worked well anyway.

Agatha Christie's Poirot 13.1 "Elephants Can Remember": I haven't read the book this is based on (I haven't read many Poirot books, actually. Much as I love him when it's David Suchet, he aggravates me in the books) and so can't comment on it as an adaptation, but I liked this a lot, and especially enjoyed all the gothic tropes, and found myself almost rooting for the killer due to motivations.

Beauty and the Beast 1.21-1.22: My childhood memories are vague, but i'm pretty sure elements of the last scene were genderswapped versions of the season 2 finale of the 80s series.

Bomb Girls 2.7-2.12: GUYS. Rose O'Donnell guested as a character named Dottie. If you don't know why it made me figuratively bounce around with joy to have Rosie O'Donnell play a character named Dottie in a show about women taking on men's jobs during wartime, then either you haven't seen A League of Their Own, or it's been too long since you've watched it. Either way, it should be corrected.

Also, the series is cancelled, which is tragic beyond words.

1.19-1.20: I rarely deliberately spoil myself before watching things, but I'm glad I did this time.

I watched a little bit of the first episode of The White Queen, based on the Philippa Gregory novel, but didn't care for it. A pity, as I'd really been anticipating it. I also watched season 4 of Community. I didn't dislike it the way a lot seem to, though maybe that's because I"d heard that it was really bad, and so had lowered expectations? But while a lot of it felt off and sometimes characters felt like regressing (and they went even further with "Britta's a dumb blonde" than last season, which is saying something, and not something good), I'm pretty sure this is also the first time Troy and Shirley have had a plot for just the two of them, and there seemed to be more scenes of Annie, Britta and Shirley interacting than I remember there being in the second and third seasons.

Most of it I've already talked about.b  Spent a whole lot of time in my comfy zone, watching Poirot, and have now watched(as far as I know) every ep and movie of David Suchet's Poirot that's been released in the US.

I've babbled about Poirot a fair bit here before and don't have a whole lot to add.  Love it, adore the characers(most of what I watched was the episodes, which feature Miss Lemon, which made me happy as she's not in the movies and I adore her) and even the rare simpler mystery makes you think at least a bit.

Cuz I HAVE been watching things between Rurouni Kenshin, wuxia, and doramas(as far as I know, everyone who cares about that is on the [profile] dorama_chat community, so the rest of you have been spared clutter on your friends pages)...

Monk: Season 3-4:  Pure delight, as expected.  The focus shifts away from the mysteries and more towards Monk's hang-ups in these seasons, but the mysteries are largely there to give the characters something to do and a reason to interact and be clever and quirky, anyway.  The main thing, here, is the switch from Sharona to Natalie.  The transition in regards to Natalie herself was handled well, but the way they wrote out Sharona's character was horrid...her behavior as described didn't fit with her devotion to Monk as portrayed for 2 1/2 seasons, and the whole thing was clearly designed to make us dislike her.  Natalie's character, initially, clearly had little more thought behind her than "Sharona when she first met Monk."  it worked well enough, and Natalie soon developed her own personality, though.  All in all, I'd ay that my only complaint is with the "how" of writing out Sharona(and the backstage "why")

Poirot: The Movie Collection: Set 2/Poirot: Set 3, 5: My first mystery love(before I knew about the Suchet versions, I religiously watched a couple of the Unistov ones as a teen.) As clever and as good as always.  Though, this is the first time I've seen the regular episode versions since watching the first three episodes, which were my introduction to the series.  It's not a bad thing, but watching the episodes and the movies so close together, the difference in production was huge.  They also don't get to get as in depth with the mysteries as the movies do, making them a little easier to figure out, but I don't mind.  From these, I particularly liked The Double Clue, Murder on the Links, and Hercule Poirot's Christmas.

Incidentally, I've thought since the first episode of Monk that Monk was largely an extreme version of Poirot...watching them so close together, it's even more obvious.  This is far from a bad thing, and is part of why Monk works, it's just an observation.

Outlaw Star: Complete Collection:  (Yes, I know it's not alphabetical...it's on purpose because I wanted to put Monk and Poirot together.)  A pretty fun anime(which I actually watched a week or so before Rurouni Kenshin)  Pretty much "Treasure Island" as a space western.  It's not the best anime ever, but it's far from the worst, and one I'm glad I got around to watching.  Incidentally, it also features one of the few anime guys who actually doen't look feminine.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror:  A movie I've been wanting to see for a while now.  A much darker version of Snow White, darker in some ways than the original(though not the darkest I've encountered)  It focuses more on the stepmother, and Snow White's reacting to her like most young girls do to an "intruder" in their lives, and it's harm on the stepmother's already fragile psyche.  They pretty much do away with Prince Charming/Seven Dwarves part, though both have representatives, and  play it as supernatural history.  It's pretty good, really...easily my favorite of the film versions of Snow White(unless 10th Kingdom counts, but I don't think it does...Snow White was the most prominent theme, but it was far fromthe only theme)

Kitty:  Dad: "Pipsqueak"  Mom "The Cat"  A bowl with water has miraculously appeared on the back porch and somehow, food has spilled onto the back porch while being poured into food bowls inside the house...I have been informed that the kitten is cute enough to move for and to pay a pet deposit for.

Milehigh's 40% off trades/manga and 50% off backissues codeword sale has proven to be rather dangerous...enough to negate what mild progress has been made.

Work is slowing down a bit...enough that I'll probably be working 11 hr days this week, instead of 12 hr days.  Doesn't sound like much, but I could tell a major difference in the 1 hour on friday.

I have my new layout set up.  It's pretty and suits my mood lately.  I need to see if i can make the bars wider and put things on the sides...or I may just leave it alone.  And so, new (temporary) default user pic to go with it, courtesy of [profile] drealkulit.  Will likely make a few more Brian Froud icons for myself once I DL a new program.  My trial expired and I've been reading Naruto in Paint, and so have had little incentive to DL it...

And now, on to the stuffs...

Also, I just popped "Steamboy" into the DVD player and it had the FF: Advent Children trailer, and now I want to watch that again...
