Official MV for Florence + The Machine's "Breath of Life" for Snow White and the Huntsman:

Meanwhile, Whedon on what he feels is his greatest achievement in The Avengers:

JW: Getting “mewling quim” out there to the masses. Also, Hulk.

Yes, one of the 2 things he's proudest of doing in the movie is having a woman called a "whining cunt" in archaic language.

I'll stand with you in being snobbish, and may be moving towards downright insufferable.

any franchise that has tony stark is down a tick

That makes me feel ill. That whole scene made me feel ill, despite the fact that I really liked the movie in general. NOT COOL, DUDE.

And he's so proud of being a feminist.

I'm just glad to see something from Florence that isn't racist as hell, but that movie continues to look awesome.

Whedon continues to be kind of an idiot, film at 11.

Florence's songs are not racist as far as I can tell, but the "symbolic" videos wind up giving some seriously screwed up messages. I can't bring myself to buy any of her music, despite how fantastic it is.

I actually don't think the Whedon thing is that simple. He gives himself WAY too much credit, but he continues to be demonstrably better about allowing women to be competent and awesome than almost anyone else in popular media. (Not a high bar, I admit.) He does some stuff that is completely messed up, for sure -- say, the entirety of Dollhouse? -- and yet individual characters can be excellent. My hypothesis is, he's against misogyny without understanding kyriarchy AT ALL. It would explain a lot.

I'm sad it won't be out while we are AT Wiscon!
