Everything that comes out about this movie makes me anticipate it more. (I mat be getting a bit snobbish and all "my movie has little girls stabbing men with nails and stealing their knives when threatened, and leading armies. Yours is currently best known for using archaic language to try to get misogynistic slurs in without anyone caring." *judgy and mean*)

I'm just glad to see something from Florence that isn't racist as hell, but that movie continues to look awesome.

Whedon continues to be kind of an idiot, film at 11.

First song of Florence's that I've been exposed to and associated it with a specific person. Sad to hear that most of her stuff is racist, as I quite like this song.

Whedon is like that person who took a class that talked about something for a week once (feminism) and thought it was awesome and made sure to include it in something he did, then never bothered trying again but wants to surf the wave of the one time he used it.

I'm very sad that the movie isn't coming out before WisCon.

Florence's songs are not racist as far as I can tell, but the "symbolic" videos wind up giving some seriously screwed up messages. I can't bring myself to buy any of her music, despite how fantastic it is.

I actually don't think the Whedon thing is that simple. He gives himself WAY too much credit, but he continues to be demonstrably better about allowing women to be competent and awesome than almost anyone else in popular media. (Not a high bar, I admit.) He does some stuff that is completely messed up, for sure -- say, the entirety of Dollhouse? -- and yet individual characters can be excellent. My hypothesis is, he's against misogyny without understanding kyriarchy AT ALL. It would explain a lot.

The only good thing to come out of Dollhouse was Dichen Lachman (though the episode with Priya's backstory was the last bit that I watched).

But yeah, I pretty much agree about Joss.

I WISH IT WAS COMING OUT EARLIER SO THERE COULD BE THIS GROUP WATCHALONG. I mean, if my first viewing (it better be something I want to watch multiple times, with this much anticipation) is going to be with a couple hundred other people, then I would rather it be WisCon-ers.
