Top 10 US movie OTPs

dangermousie. (Actually, a lot of my LJ this last year can be blamed on her as she is the ultimate pusher. Anyway...)This is in absolutely no order whatsoever (simply what I clicked on first in the photobucket folder, and amount of pictures is basically whatever a 5 minute google search turned up), just my 10 favorite Big Screen romances spawned from the US.
Apparently, it takes a lot to qualify if you don't pick up a sword or other blade at least once. This could explain why only 2 1/2 are from this century...
1. Madmartigan and Sorcha (Willow)
Him: Former soldier turned rogue and possibly thief(and reluctant protector of resident diminutive hero)
Her: Daughter of the villain, a leader of her evil mother's armies. Apparently though, her mother gave Sorcha her own soul at childbirth, as Sorcha is nowhere as evil as she'd like to be.
Courtship includes enslavement(of him by her) abduction and hostage taking (of her by him) ensorcelled confessions of love(from him to her) and making out on the battlefield.
(and don't ask me how I ended up with more pictures of them than of several others combined)
2. Will and Elizabeth (Pirates of the Caribbean)
Much as I love Jack, Norrington, and really everything about the series, this is what I'm all about when it comes to POTC. I know some prefer Jack/Elizabeth, but the mutual obsession, loving from afar(kinda) for a decade and crossing oceans to find each other is what I'm all about.
3. Nick and Nora (The Thin Man)
Possibly cinema's wittiest married pair, the wacky retired detective and his eternally tolerant socialite wife. 9 times out of 10 mystery pairings that work are based on these two to some degree, and there's a reason for that. There's just something magic anytime William powell and Myrna Loy are on screen together, and this is where they're at their best.
4. Robin and Marian(The Adventures of Robin Hood)
Granted, a lot of it is just Robin and Marian in general as opposed to just here, but like William Powell and Myrna Loy, there's something about Errol Flynn and Olivia De Havilland that just clicks, though in a different way. Robin of Sherwood is probably my favorite version of Robin Hood, and The Adventures of Robin Hood in general is more of an enjoyable romp than anything else, but in my mind, this is the best big screen Robin and Marian(though I have an extremely soft spot for the Richard Todd version as well, and hope it gets a regular DVD release one day.)
5. Buttercup and Westley(The Princess Bride)
Ok, seriously, thisone is pure romantic adventure, one of those rare movies that truly is about the love between the leads. All the humor and awesome supporting characters and hijinks and everything are just major bonuses. Pure romance (and swashbuckling adventure!) from beginning to end...you can't go wrong with this if you want romance.
6. Isabeau and Navarre(Ladyhawke)
Cursed lovers-a knight and his lady. He's cursed to be a man by day and a wolf at night, her to be a hawk by day and a woman at night. Adventure, betrayal, duels, and oh yeah, both species mate for life...And, frankly, Navarre can put almost of of his cohorts to shame in the "stalwart knight" department.
7. Jack and Joan(Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the Nile)
Rogue, con artist, smuggler, etc. and repressed romance novelist. They're about the only attempt to bring a romance novel to the big screen that really works (even if they aren't actually based on a novel, as far as I know). Modern swashbuckling derring-do involving things like crocodile pits, cliffs, drug runners, sheikhs, etc.
8. Linus and Sabrina(Sabrina)
The light and fluffy contribution. Dreamy young girl in love with the dashing younger brother while the business obsessed older brother tries to keep them apart and falls in love in the process. I don't know what it is about them, but they're just so incredibly RIGHT that they have to be here. I'm also fond of the Ford/Ormond version, even if it's not as good..
9. Rick and Evie (The Mummy, The Mummy Returns)
Former soldier turned mercenary and prisoner, overly serious and dreamy librarian. I think you can guess most of the rest of what I'd say.
10. Tristan and Yvaine(Stardust)
Kinda cheating because I love them from the book first(I'd seen Princess Bride many times before I read the book...because I didn't know about it) but I wanted an even 10. Meak shopboy turned swashbuckling adventurer and the ill tempered fallen star who's his true love.
