The next person to complain about 5-6 hours of sleep DIES.  As in, I shall fly to New England, "borrow" one of  [profile] jamesgrasselli's japanese swords, and then since about 65% of the people I IM with and are on my flist live in the very general area, just make a short side trip.

*got maybe 4 hours if spurts are added together*

*would not be a problem if she were the sort to nap, but she didn't even take naps in kindergarten...just faked it*

ETA: Actually rescheduled a dentist apt for tomorrow to get a cavity taken care of because there's no way i'm taking any sort of sedative, no matter how localized, and then driving when I'm sleep deprived.

Finally slept w/out waking up every hour.  Still tired as it gets, but it's progress.

I've actually been making good progress with the comics for the first time in...well...months.  May actually get them all read before May's comics get here(ehich, I think, will be a first for this year)

Only 2 episodes left of Next/Rebirth-it really is quite good and I suspect several on my flist would actually like it even more than I am.I think I've pretty much figured out the ending, but we'll see...I'll finish it later.

Waldenbooks took down the link for my renewable coupon, which means A) find another provider or B) get far fewer books.  Really doesn't sound like a fun thing.

Apologies to the various people I haven't replied to...I've developed a bad habit of reading a reply, deciding to get to it later and then forgetting sbout it lately.  Plus, LJ has been holding comment notifications hostage again.

*heads off to try that "nap" thing even though it never works for her*

1 ep. left of Rebirth, then I'm kinda lost for what to watch next.

I'm thinking

1) not long(Rebirth is only 14 hour long eps, but Strange Tales of Liao Zhai was 36 eps and Handsome Siblings 40, and those were the last 2 I watched)
2) probably lighter on the angst, or at least, with the angst not the focus(a girl needs a break, especially if she's sick)
3) I should likely give the swords a rest for a week or two(she says, planning to watch Storm Riders after the last ep of Rebirth)
4) none of that is remotely set in stone if you can be persuasive.

This is one, I think, that a lot of my flist will like more than I did(and I liked it a good bit) Rebirth is essentially about reincarnation and the idea that you're meant to love the same people in every life, even if it's not always in the same way.  In the modern day, Ki-Bum is a surgeon and Soo-hyun is his fiance, a psychiatrist he's been seeing since medical school, and his younger brother Ki-soo, is an actor dating Jung-hwa, an actress in his company.  Ki-bum and Jung-hwa meet by chance and are drawn to each other, unaware of their connection through Ki-soo(Min Ki-soo and Min Ki-bum seems kinda obvious to me, but maybe it's more common there?)

Because Jung-hwa has trouble sleeping(to put it mildly), Ki-soo takes her to Soo-hyun for treatment, and under hypnosis Jung-hwa remembers a past life where she was a noble cast down to the servant class because her father was declared a traitor for his political neutrality and she became a servent to Soo-hyun and both fell in love with Ki-bum, whose family had arranged for him to marry Soo-hyun.  In another life, Soo-hyun was a courtesan loved by Ki-soo, a Koryo general, and against his wishes she was sent to ther mongolian cap to assassinate their general, Ki-bum, and they fell in love.  In WW2, Ki-soo was working for the Japanese govt. and was hunting for Ki-bum, who was a reporter writing for independence and he was hidden by Soo-hyun, a nurse whose family Ki-soo had once served, and in ancient Korea, Jung-hwa grew up as the younger sister of Ki-soo, but she and Ki-bum were twins separated at birth(playing on what's probably the nicest asian myth about f/m twins, that they were lovers in a previous life) and when she and Ki-soo(neither knowing her real identity) are sent to assassinate Ki-bum's father, they fall in love(but don't make it to incest-type stuff)

It avoids retelling the same story again and again(about the only 100% constant throughout is that poor Ki-soo loves the woman who loves Ki-bum instead, and both women love Ki-bum) but throughout, it's shown that Jung-hwa's love for Ki-bum is selfless, while Soo-hyun's is selfish(sometimes obviously, sometimes subtlely) and that while Ki-bum will love Soo-hyun in some lives and admire her in others, he will love Jung-hwa, whether romantically or fraternally, in every life, so it shouldn't be a surprise who he apparently ends up with in the end(it's one of those ends where he's definately not with one, but will probably be with the other in about 5 minutes)

If I were better rested, I'd probably do a much better job of this...but basically, if the idea of reincarnation interests you, check it out.  The first 2 eps are kinda slow, but the series itself is good.

*flail* CLOUD!  AARON KWOK! CLOUD! *flail*

So, like Dragon Tiger Gate, Storm Riders is based on a long chinese comic and, like DTG, making a two hour movie of it ends up with it being a little too condensed and moving almost too fast at times, but, like DTG, really, who cares?

Storm Riders is about Wind and Cloud, the sons(but not brothers) of legendary fighters.  Both their fathers were murdered by Lord Conquer, who raised them(along with a third boy, Frost, who is also quite cool) to be his chief enforcers.  Wind doesn't know that Conquer murdered his father, and think Conquer saved him from being eaten by wolves, so he grows up loyal and pretty nice and well adjusted(and with a penchant for using his fan in fights)  Cloud, however saw his entire village get slaughtered by Conquer's troops, so he grew up ruthless and angsty and bitter and with a penchant for venting his angst by standing shirtless under a waterfall and screaming of which there were far too few scenes and the ones there were weren't long enough.  Naturally, they're also both in love with Conquer's daughter, Charity who was completely unworthy of either one and when Conquer learns that he and Cloud have become lovers, he arranges for her to marry Wind(which, actually, was kinda a good idea...in RL, Wind would by far be the better choice, what with his being nice and well adjusted and all and Cloud being a little too "kill anything in my way now let me go angst" for his own good...I think most fathers moderately concerned for their daughter's welfare would have done the same)
