Avatar Season 1 eps 5-8
Dec. 6th, 2007 12:28 amI shall use Kougaiji icons until I get Zuko icons.
Hmm...so...is it odd that I essentially(in a non-shippy way as they're kids) view Qwan and Daki as a mass collision of cute. To explain the "odd":
Qwan is a strange young boy with giant mallet-like weapons who eats demons by literally sucking them up into his mouth. Though human, Daki is a little girl who was raised by demons, so she smells like them. As a result, Qwan has been vwery, very determined to eat her, including "kissing" her, thinking flesh-to-flesh contact would work, and tearing at her clothesto see if they were just getting in the way. (Please note that this isn't done in a remotely pedophilic or suggestive way in the manga, and isn't remotely portrayed that way by the mangaka.) While he's over that in this volume, he does eat one of the demons who raised her, and almost eats another one, but stops when Daki throws herself on the demon. Somehow, even though it should all be rather strange and wrong, it's amazingly cute.
I also like that Chikei, instead of immediately emotionally latching onto Qwan as most of the "rogues who take in kids for *insert pretext*" tend to do with their "charges," still seems to be rather ambivalent about Qwan. He's concerned for Qwan when he's gone (but not enough to not enjoy himself and enjoy being stuck at a brothel to the best of his ability) and seems to like him, but is still going to put himself first. Though he presumably WILL get very attached to Qwan, I'm glad it isn't happening quickly just to endear him to us. I was disappointed, though, that Shaga played such a small role in this volume.
Daki's backstory was interesting(visually and otherwise) and I find myself very curious about her origins(somehow, she seems to have "lost princess or some equivalent" written all over her) and what appears to be a Special Destiny. And wasn't it sweet of Qwan to upchuck her demon guardian, even though it would make him weak, because she was sad?
Aman remains great fun, though it seems hard to jusge which "side" he'll be on in the end...he seems to really want to help and support Qwan, but I can't help but think there's something else going on in his head, too.
Finally, I remain very sad that there seems to be no icon fodder scans or raws online...
