 *ahem*

I shall be buying my first ever Green Lantern monthly comic(having only ever bought 2 GL trades and a couple GL elseworlds before) as soon as I can find it.  BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH DC HATES ME ALMOST AS MUCH AS MARVEL AND WILL THEREFORE SCREW IT UP, I WILL LET THEM MANIPULATE ME INTO BUYING GUY AND ICE REUNION!!! NO REALLY I WILL!!!!

One of my not-so-secret-but-rarely-canon shipping weaknesses(that usually gets me odd looks) is the total bastard(whether a jerk, unpleasant, a perv, or some combination) and the nice, sweet girl everyone(characterwise) loves who he's not remotely worthy of, but we allow it because said bastard will generally show his love in stupid yet oddly endearing ways and by breaking faces for her.  Sadly, it rarely happens.  Akimine Kamijyo loves me and made it the main pairing in Samurai Deeper Kyo, and Emura loves me and made Toki/Nobuka canon after many volumes of private shipping on my part in W Juliet.  If Katsura Hoshino loved me, he/she would make Kanda/Lenalee canon in D.Gray-man, but I don't think Katsura Hoshino loves me(at least Allen/Lenalee doesn't annoy me.)  I do not count Green Arrow/Black Canary as he cheats and that's a line I don't cross(which is really annoying because you'll get a writer who writers them the way they should be, with Ollie essentially worshipping Dinah even though he knows he's a screw up and not good enough, and then you get a new writer who think an Ollie who doesn't cheat is no Ollie, and Dinah is supposed to just accept it.)

Keith Giffen loves me and made Guy Gardner and Ice canon long before I ever heard of them(then someone else decided to off her years ago but now Gail Simone has come along and she brought Ice back.)  And hey, they're a schmuck turned into an intergalactic superwarrior and a goddess...it's hard to top that.

Scans of excellence can be found here at [community profile] scans_daily.

I'm sure DC won't let it happen so they can have Guy go off and brood in space for months, but I will allow them to lead me on for a bit(and Guy counts time in hours, which is somehow cute.)

And in case anyone in the world(or at least the 116 who watch this journal) besides me feels they must have an icon of "welcome back from the dead" smoochies:

Because the mailman is a shojo fan with psychic powers and is off fondling my Princess Tutu DVDs and cackling or some such, I just watched the Samurai X movie(the one based on the TV show, not the OVAs) and...ehm...mostly it was like the last 3rd of the TV series...one of those stories that manufactures events from Kenshin's past and brings in a person from said manufactured past event and creates the moral conflict and samurai angst and posturing.  It entertained me well enough for an hour and a half and that's all that really matters.

Except why was Yahiko so unprickly?  And why was Sano moderately smart and well behaved?  Not his normal "my cocky stupidity results in brilliance" thing, but...normal smart?  (And those two should cook for themselves if they're always going to complain about a girl's cooking.)  And why was Sano standing there and telegraphing every single move to Kenshin instead of, you know, doing something?  And why did Kenshin have his scars long before he actually got them?  And when did Kaoru develop the psychic ability to tell when Kenshin was losing a battle from miles away?  And what was with that Toki girl?  Did she have a single scene where she didn't gasp, cry, collapse, or do some combination of the three?  AND WHY WAS THERE SO LITTLE SAITO??

Especially that last one.

Butbutbut...

In the flashback at the beginning, the BLOOD GLOWS!  I enjoyed that more than I should have and was saddened the blood didn't glow every time.  I guess it was special emo tragedy blood.  But also, when Kenshin goes into Battosai mode, his hair glows, and stayed glowing until he snapped out of it.  And when Kenshin and Token Noble Foe From Kenshin's Past prepare the fight, their Battle Aura let out a blinding light that literally blinded everyone around them.

I made none of this up.

Why don't I have RuroKen icons?  (Specifically of Sano or Saito.  Especially of Sano.)

I hate to say it, but I think I have to give up on this book.  At least until it ends and I know Kaname ends up miserable and alone and no one worships and adores him anymore.

I simply cannot handle reading Kaname as a viable part of the love triangle.  At my kindest, he gives off serious stalkery/pedophilic vibes.  Every time he goes near the heroine, Yuki, my stomach churns.  I mean, aside from being very pretty, how is this character supposed to be remotely appealing?  He's as interesting as dirt, has no charisma, has essentially been stalking and marking the heroine as his territory since she was five, everyone but Zero worships and adores him.  Yet, I'm supposed to see him as this captivating, charismatic character, a viable option in the love triangle, and to feel for his angst.  The mildest reaction I had to him in this volume(which was All! About! Him!) was to want to punch him in the face for that absurd alpha display towards Zero.

The sadthing is, looking at the flashbacks to when he and Yuki first met, I could probably like him had the relationship gone in a brother/sister-type relationship, instead of stalkery pedophilic obsession/idolizing crush.

Originally I thought my liking Zero and interest in the set-up would be enough to get me past Kaname, but it's just too central to the plot and liking him depends too much on my buying into his hot emo vampire act, so I don't think I can.  Which does make me kind of sad.  Maybe I'll fare better if I check the anime out(I can FF a lot easier than I can skip pages).  Because I do really like Zero.

I've noticed that a lot of people on my f-list, all shameless Saiyuki fangirls, have this listed in their interests.  Now, as all the people who I recognize have shrines dedicated to Kazuya Minekura are Saiyuki fans, I assume it's related to Saiyuki, but what is it?

INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW!!

Ok, just one inquiring mind, but its' a VERY IMPORTANT inquiring mind.

ETA:  "raised by pigeons" still only has 8 interested users...while this saddens me, I suppose it should please me, as as far as I know, there are only 3 of us in the whole world who have read Hikkatsu! Strike A Blow to Vivify.

I have never paid attention to Suikoden III because it's based on a game, and not even the first part, and those and i don't always get along(we get along ok in anime, but not in manga.)  However, I just learned that it's by the same mangaka as Qwan, which now has me curious.

Anyone read it?  Is it accessible?  Is it independent of the game?  Is it good?
