meganbmoore: (bleach-orihime reads)
Forget my last post asking about Suikoden III.  I DLed it when I got home to check it out.  Read the first chapter and am rather in love, despite some gaming terminology, for similar reasons as loving Qwan.

I could not help but marvel at some of it though(in the good way):

*The boy hero(who will apparently be grown up soon) has a teacher or something who is a giant, talking, clothed duck.
*I sincerely hope "Fubar" does not mean the same thing in Japan as it does here, because that's what the townspeople named the orphaned baby gryphon they found.
*In the panel after we learned Fubar's name, we saw Fubar all teeny and scared and shivering and super duper wide-eyed.  I think he was protesting his name.
*Then followed a montage of Fubar and our boy hero, Hugo, bonding through nipping and carrying on the back and such.  Except then Fubar got big and t he townspeople threw him in a cage.
*But Hugo rescued Fubar in the dead of night and tearfully took him out into the wilderness and told Fubar he could never return and had to avoid all the nasty things.
*At which point, they were attacked by wolves and Fubar rescued Hugo and carried him home unconscious on his back and was accepted as a warrior of the village, so now he and Hugo get to stay together forever and grow up to be a legendary hero and his noble steed.

It was all very sweet and touching yet amazingly cracky.  Though, granted, a lot of the crack was unintentional and resulted from the fact that "Fubar!" was being said or yelled pretty regularly.

But I think I will most definately get this book.

I will now go to bed as I will no doubt be getting the "guess what I was doing at this time *insert # of years* ago?" in a few hours.

Thankies for all the birthday wishes in post, IMs and comments.  Uhm...if I replied to all it'd take a couple hours, so I feel very loved(consider this the mass group reply.)

I am officially doing nothing productive today(NO! WORK!) but might be going to dinner with the parents.  And possibly wrapping Christmas gifts(everything but Tall Cynical Guy's Secret Santa gift is purchased and I am beyond broke...but I will have money before gift exchange day.)

I used birthday money to buy myself a set of Tyrone Power movies, which Amazon tells me are swashbucklers, but some reviewers say otherwise.  We shall see.  And to buy Christmas gifts(yes, that broke)

Sadly, the mailman was not holding onto my Princess Tutu DVDs to gift me with on my birthday, so I do not have them to mainline.  Perhaps I shall start season 6 of Stargate SG-1 or watch movies today instead.  He didm however, leave a wonderful package from a wonderful person with a Borders giftcard that will let me go use the 30% off coupon(s) that I have...Probably on Pumpkin Scissors or Suikoden III manga if they have them, Tsubasa other wise.  But, like Someone Else, I'm totally only reading one Clamp series now and I'm not reading a second for a crazy guy with a sword.  At all.

It also included a package that I am not allowed to open until Christmas and a note saying he'll know if I do open it before then.  Due to my inability to keep my mouth shut, he's probably right and now I must have it taunting me for the next week and a half.

Actually, I may do the "year in review" for Manga today, afterall.  I shall read more manga before the end of the year, but I shall only be covering series that I started this year(or at least read vol 2+ and only vol 1 last year because I have to include Night of the Beasts).  Why?  As revealed in my very hasty count, not including scanslations(which I shall ignore except for possibly Shin Angyo Onshi) I've read 134 manga spread through 56 titles...this only narrows it down to 26.

If you want me to cover 56 titles(57 including SAO)-and I don't know if more than 2-3 will even bother to read it-then come down here and teach my 11 month old nephew to say, with perfect diction, "Aunt Meg, please review every single manga title you read this year."  That might work, but I make no promises

ETA:  I'm not sure, though, that any birthday gift could top this:

But they did get me thin crust pizza and chocolate chip cookie pizza(which is really thing pizza crust with cookie dough and chocolate chips cooked on top and then drizzle frosting over it after it's cooked.)  As there are NO WORDS for my love of both(the only pizza I love morethan thin crust chicken is thin crust chicken and bacon) I suppose they do love me.  But still, as they saved about $60-$75 on lunch on Sunday due to my intense and searing pain, you'd think they could spring for POTC3(if I hadn't, you know, asked for it for Christmas already...)

I did stop and use up my Borders giftcard, though.  Got vol 1 of the Pumpkin Scissors manga and 4 and 6 of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle.  They didn't have vol 5 but I plan to order from Amazon soon anyway.

I also learned that there's already a Bourne Trilogy set out.  Seriously?  I figured there wouldn't be one for a few months yet.  If I'd known, I would have asked for it to Christmas.  Instead I shall buy it from Amazon.

Also, I have determined that if Jason Bourne ever met Kambei from Samurai Seven, he'd come out of it sounding like this:

(ETA:  When the girl in Samurai Seven tries to confess her love to Kambei, he cuts her off and tells her that his heart is dead and withered, and she should save her water/love for someone else.)

I will now either start watching Stargate SG-1 S6, or post Bride of the Water God scans so I can mock the extreme fanservice.  Reboot shall decide.
