meganbmoore: (dark schreider isn't reading it)
[Poll #1125368][Poll #1125368]

If anyone wants them, I'm open to bribes. Unless one of them is the one that [livejournal.com profile] smillaraaqwants to rip into. She has dibs if one is that book. Please to be noting that that my reading them detracts from time that could be spend on good books, manga, comics, anime, dramas, and FUN bad books. I'd say "do you really want me to suffer through them just so you can vicariously enjoy the badness?" but I know you would all revel in my torment. I require convincing to read, though. At least a bit. Or bribes. I'm always open to bribes.

ETA: I would have used check boxes or a text box, but I suspect they would be abused.

ETA 2: Why do I suspect The Dark Schreider Icon of Denial will get a lot of use in the near future?

ETA 3:  Due to the demands of [personal profile] lesbiassparrow and [profile] calixa, I will now provide the teaser excerpt on the first page of Savage Dream.

I should note that any typos are mine, as I'm typing this up from the books mysself.

Both of the Cassie Edwards books that I have have already been gone through by Smart Bitches, Trashy Books.  Honestly, guys, I doubt I'll find things they didn't.  They went over both pretty thoroughly in this document.  One of them, though, is apparently the book where she not only copies the author's note from somewhere else, but also where she uses The Song of Hiawatha.

Went to my preferred used bookstore before work. Naturally, I found nothing I was specifically looking for(mainly Terry Pratchett, Martha Wells, Dorothy Dunnett, Jane Lindskold and Diane Duane) except for one thing that wasn’t even for me, but did find some odds and ends, mostly fantasy. Tried looking at the scifi and was again reminded that even though I like scifi, I can’t touch most of it because it seems to think taking the average fantasy, exploration or historical plot and adding space ships and aliens and A.I.s and such suddenly makes it more intelligent and serious and "better’ fiction. Scifi and I will not be nearly as good of friends as I’d like us to be until it gets over itself. I added a few fantasy titles on principle, though I did grab one title that sounds like it could be interesting scifi noir.

I also spend a lot of time staring at the Cassie Edwards books. There were about two shelves of her books. My eyes almost went blind from all the "Savages." I was looking for Something for Somebody(which I did find, and which was cheap enough to be a non-issue and Edwards didn’t get a penny of it anyway.) It apparently involves girls raised as boys, accusations of witchcraft, and falling in love with your kidnapper. Oh, and according to the back(this part I remember a bit more clearly) the hero is on a vengeance quest against her family for introducing his brave and noble warriors to alcohol and ruining them.

I may dazzle you with the glory of the back description and interior excerpt when I get home. It currently sits in the car, hidden under good books.

But, seriously, I know a good chunk is the publisher wanting to keep her books recognizable…BUT ENOUGH WITH THE "SAVAGES" ALREADY!!!!

Honestly. It was painful seeing how hard they were trying with the names. It made J.R. Ward’s "h" obsession look brilliant and original.

I also looked at many of the other authors I read in high school and the beginning of college. I shook my head at myself. Not, mind you, that I feel any shame in reading romance novels. I have developed taste, though. I now only read bad romance to revel in the bad, cheese, and crack, as opposed to, ah, thinking the bad ones are good. Though I do also read actual good ones.

But, seriously, I think there were around 40 different "Savage" titles…I had to go over them 3 times to find the one I was looking for.

For anyone who hasn't heard, Heath Ledger died today.  I'm not posting about that because...uhm...almost everyone else has.

BUT!

Now people are apparently finding it fun(apparently due to a false news leak that's already been retracted) to say that he broke into the apartment of one of the Olsen twins and was found dead and naked in her bed room bathroom.  With, of course, plenty of dirty jokes about what he did in between breaking in and OD-ing.

Uhm...people...lets have a touch of repect, here, shall we?  I don't care if you loved him or hated him, he was still a human being...AND HE HAS A KID!!!!  Let's not be furthering terrible jokes about her DEAD father she probably won't even have any actual memories of as what she'll associate with her father.  Because I'm sure everyone wants their little girl to hear about how he was some druggy who broke into a former child star's home and did dirty things on her bed before killing himself.

Even if it was true(which, apparently, it is not) people should at least respect the kid.

And the latest Heath Ledger rumor is that they'll be editting The Joker out of Dark Knight.

*headdesk*

Uhm.  Right.

They're going to edit a popular start out of a movie that has long since finished filming, who will now be 10 times as popular as he was before.

Please.

The fact that it's the last movie he made is going to make the movie golden.

That's not insensitivity, that's the moviegoer/Hollywood hivemind.

*facepalm*

Seriously, he'll probably retroactively get supporting actor for it now.

Blade of Fortriu is the second book in Juliet Marillier’s The Bridei Chronicles, a fantasy trilogy about the 6th century Pictish king, Bridei. The first book, The Dark Mirror, told the story of Bridei and his wife, Tuala. Blade of Fortriu focuses on the people surrounding Bridei. Specifically, his Gael assassin, Faolan, and Ana, a Pictish noble who has been a hostage of the court. Exiled from his own people, Faolan is utterly devoted to Bridei and nothing else, and serves as his advisory, assassin, bodyguard, messenger and negotiator. Though a hostage, Ana grew up alongside Bridei’s wife, Tuala, and is a cherished lady of the court, despite her official position. When Bridei needs to form an alliance with a Caitt chieftain, Alpin, Bridei reluctantly decides to send Ana to him as a bride to seal the alliance, with Faolan accompanying her to serve as her bodyguard and to finalize the alliance.
