Though he's expected to take over his father's fishing business Shinkai chooses instead to pursue his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot.  When he finally becomes a co-pilot, he finds himself clashing with one of his superiors, Koda, a pilot with very strict rules, and an adherence to regulations, as well as falling for Ogawa, a very frank mechanic who's afraid of flying.  Meanwhile, there's also Fukaura, a brash stewardess with an utterly shameless crush on Shinkai, Jane, a (male) pilot who's a complete playboy(yes, Jane, not Jean, and it's his personal name, not his family name), and Togashi, the head stewardess who has A Past with Koda, not to mention Shinkai's neighbor, who thinks his name is "Shou-chan," and that he's her boyfriend.

I have to say, this is my fourth Kimura Takuya drama, and I can't help but feel like I'm just seeing the character in a new profession everytime.  He always seems to play the cool but nice guy who has problems with authority and clashes with the way things are traditionally done.  In Hero and Love Revolution, it was the standards and typical expectations of that work place, and in Pride and Good Luck!, it's specifically with a superior who has different ideas from him.  I'm not really complaining, as it's a character type that he plays well, but I'd like a little more variety.

I'm sorry, I'm slightly cranky due to about 4 or maybe a teeny bit more hours of sleep, so let me rant a teeny bit.

I've seen several people leaving anonymous comments basically saying "hi, your posts are interesting, but I think you have questionable taste/are wrong in these opinions/etc." in posts on my f-list.  Huh?  It would make sense if it was in the context of "we seem to disagree about some things, but your posts are interesting and we like some of the same fandoms, do you mind if I friend you?" but the anonymous thing just to make a comment like that seems to be in bad taste.

(They've also all been with people where I disagree with them or something or other, but I'm not exactly worried about that...why disagree anonymously if I've disagreed using my name before?  Actually, I don't get the whole "anonymous" thing in general.  If it's not something you feel comfortable saying using a name, then why say it at all?)

I was going to rant a bit on various community posts I've seen lately implying that anyone who doesn't love slash is homophobic, and that not being a slash fan means you hate all slashers, but I am going to skip that and end on the happier note that I've been seeing lots of girllove posts the last few days, as well as rants from people-not-me-or-[personal profile] redbrunjaabout mass fan hatred towards/dismissal of female characters for having vaginas.  A nice reversal from what I usually see outside of some f-list posts.

In my post from earlier[profile] musouka_mangabrought up a very good point:  the idea that all bashing of female characters is just dismissed as jealousy.  I don't know if that is all it is with others, but I'll give my take on that, and how things often come across to me when I see negative statements about characters.

(This is also prompted by a few unrelated discussions elsewhere.)

Before I get into that:  When I friend someone, I don't really care if a person likes slash, het, gen, or couldn't care less about any pairing ever(not really synonymous with gen.)  All I really care is that we have a few similar interests, they seem interesting, intelligent, and don't seem insane(or at least are my kind of insane) and seem to be more about liking the common interest in general than about disliking certain things about it or characters in it.
