June comics, part 3
Jul. 12th, 2007 07:55 pmNew Warriors #1: Hmm...I'm honestly not quite sure what to think of this one. While I like it as a book, I'm not sure I like it as New Warriors. We have 2 confirmed depowered mutants here, 1 more in issue 2, and given the identity of that one, suspicions about a 4th one are essentially confirmed. It reads more like Ex-Mutants than New Warriors(not only that, but the conversation on the computer screen-which I've decided was Wondra and not Night Thrasher) made it sound like ex-mutants was the bulk of the recruitment pool. I'd be saying it was absolutely perfect if it was calling itself Generation X or something like that, but not as New Warriors. I also can't help but think that the wrong character was chosen as the "voice" character. I like Sofia, but she's not really a chief narrative character, and she's acting more like a less-spunky Jubilee than the Sofia I'm used to.
Jack of Fables #11: Jack has a spawn. I'd have more pertinent things to say about the events of the book itself, but my brain is frozen in that spot.
Shadowpact #14: Giant...crotchless...fire demon...guy...thing...clearly, Bill Willingham wanted to fry the brains of his readers in June...I rather like the Blue Demon plot, and I love it when they bring lawyers and real law and apply it to syperheroics. Quite the misleading cover, though.

I actually thought most of the westernized foreigners (except the one who actually spoke arabic) were made to look incompetent, but I guess that depends on your personal perception.
