Via [livejournal.com profile] swanjun , new Viz licenses.

Not sure if I'll be checking any out.  Rasetsu probably, even though Yurara, while starting with a lot of potential, ended up a disappointment.  OTOH, I've loved the other  two series by Chika Shiomi that I've read, and Rasetsu is about the more interesting characters.  Black Bird's description at Baka Updates sounded like it could be fun until I got to the part where her childhood friend-turned-protector is now her teacher.

Meanwhile, what will it take to get them to license Tokyo Crazy Paradise and Seven Seeds already?

ETA:  Err...missed Ooku at the top of the list.  That one I've heard good things about.

ack sorry, reposted for broken link

There's an article on the awards here (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-05-13/32nd-annual-kodansha-manga-awards-announced) and there's a brief summary if you click the series title. I read the first chapter in scanlation a few months ago and the main character is pretty appealing - she's shy and never seems to quite manage to get past her undeserved reputation for being scary. It also had a love interest who isn't a jerk, another point in its favor (I can't stand a lot of shoujo like Hana Yori Dango where the boy is a twerp, even if he has deep inner pain or whatever). That said it didn't immediately click with me either, so.. ^^;

This is a bit off-topic, but I feel like there's been a wave of main characters who are socially awkward or just straight-out otaku the past few years. Soul Eater actually has a character with OCD, and I've never seen that in a manga (let alone a fighting series) before.
