This volume begins with Misty Rain's expulsion from the lands of the dokebi, which was actually a pretty harsh thing to read about.  Poor little thing got all excited, thinking TGLoD was going to forgive her and then only got about 5 seconds warning before she was sent between worlds to find her own way to the human world. TGLoD didn't earn himself a lot of points there.  Meanwhile, Sirius is given a potion to make him forget Misty Rain so he won't go rushing off to rescue her (probably for the best...give him a couple years to grow up first.)

During Misty Rain's journey's, I finally realized why she seems so familiar:  she's a lt like Miaka in Fushigi Yugi-they both insane amounts of energy and endless stomachs that are on a par with each other (and anyone who's read or seen Fushigi Yugi knows that Miaka has the energy and appetite of any 5 other manga characters combined.) One thing the surprised me was that when Misty Rain came to the human world, she came to modern times.  I guess I assumed that she'd go to a past time period because of the medieval setting of the dokebi world.  After wandering around lost for months, she's hit by a car and loses her own memory.  The man who hit her takes her in and takes her around the world with him on his business trips, and two years later, he sends her to live with his two sons, Hanbit and Garam.  The older brother, Garam, is your normal manga nice older sibling stuck with  psychos, while Hanbit is a rude, uncivilized, domineering control freak.  Meanwhile, the initial potion that made Sirius forget Misty Rain wears off before he can be given a new dose (he escapes by sheer luck, not guile) allowing him to run awayto look for her and escape a fate worse than death-marrying Thornpricker.

The only thing about this book that bothers me is that I'm not quite sure how compatible Misty Rain and Sirius are.  I like both, but Sirius is super sweet and eager to please and Misty Rain extremely willful, so I can't help but think that she'd just bulldoze right over him and completely control him.  Right now, she seems to be more compatible with Hanbit, even though they'd likely kill each other in a matter of days (in fact, they may yet). Their willful personalities are on a par with each other, and either one would  completely dominate anyone with a less forceful nature.  Then again, I've only seen Misty Rain and Sirius together when they were telve, so it may be different now that they're older.

So, anyone who's even peaked at the romance novel aisle at the bookstore or supermarket knows that romance novels often have, at best, questionable covers(as in "why would anyone think this would sell a book?")  There have, though, been some pretty good ones the last few years.  Right now I'm reading Patricia Waddell's futuristic romance True Blood(short version of the plot is that it's about a diplomat and her super-deadly bodyguard investigating the serial murders of the descendants of his race's royalty...pretty good so far, more a mixture of adventure and romance than a romance novel, but that's what works best for futuristics)

Anyway, I really like the front cover:

I like the back cropping much better, though-pushes them off to the left side so that the left half is almost solid black and his head his at the very top...very nice and atmospheric)  Sadly, can't find a pic of that.

Also, [profile] ceruleansan linked me to this bit of awesomeness: the trailer for the first PotC movie, only with the FMA characters acting it out:

So, I have VERY mixed feelings about this one.  On the one hand, I absolutely adore the two leads.  On the other hand, I hated most of the supporting cast, and the absolutely kindest way to describe the hero's mother without misleading anyone is "psychotic shrew."  "Heinous spoiled self-centered psychotic malicious bratty  control freak shrew" is much more accurate, though(but we're going with "Psycho Mom" for now.) Unfortunately, a lot of the show depends on our finding her and her confrontations with the heroine funny.  Didn't quite work for me, as about 4 episodes in I had to remind myself to not automatically hit the ff button every time I saw her or heard her voice.  The only time I found her scenes funny were in the scenes where the heroine came out on top.
