[profile] calixa and I  have been talking about this a lot lately, so I was wondering:  what kind of pairings, whether they're canon or fanon, set off you're "DO NOT WANT!" alarm?  I don't mean "don't want het" or "don't want slash" or even "making one guy the weepy submissive one when he isn't in canon"(yes, I know the proper word, but I'm not using it in the body of the post) or "alpha male and weepy doormat," though that's closer to what I mean.

For example: [profile] calixa  [personal profile] lesbiassparrowand I all intensely dislike rapist/rapee and most kidnapper/kidnappee(the latter can, on very rare occasions, be made to work, but, IMO, never the former.)  We also dislike incest pairings, whether biological or raised as siblings.  Another mutual hot button is variations on student/teacher, guardian/ward, mentor/pupil pairings.  There are very rare canon exceptions where these pairings will work for me(though the incest tends to never be fulfilled when it does, and almost always one sided feelings, and the student/teacher variations pretty much nerver if it's explicit), but on most canon and pretty much all fanon occasions, the pairing types inspire a strong "DO NOT WANT! RUN AWAY!" reaction in me and I can't even make myself consider it.

Another person on the f-list has a strong aversion to commander/subordinate pairings in any form.  This is actually one that I'm averse to in theory, yet sometimes works for me in canon(explicit or heavily implied) practice, but never in straight fanon.  When it works for me, though, it tends to be in certain specific ways: the control over the personal aspect of the relationship and the right to make the first move is in the subordinate's hands, with the commander clearly willing to let them control that aspect(Sam/Jack in Stargate SG-1) the relationship is more that of equals, with the professional relationship largely the subordinate aiding the commander in achieving goals in the best way possible(Roy Mustang/Riza Hawkeye in Fullmetal Alchemist) or the professional relationship is almost a technicality.  In all cases when it doesn't set off my "DO NOT WANT!" reaction, the pursuit, balance of personal power, or first move is in the hands of the subordinate.  However, when the greater will, more obvious interest, or dominant personality in the relationship is that of the commander, especially in fanon, my "DO NOT WANT! SQUICK!" alarm is activated bigtime.

And, of course, pedophilia is about the biggest one ever, though it does tend to depend on the rules of the world(for example, a 16 yr old and a 30 yr old in modern times will set me off big time, but in a time period or a fantasy world based on a time period where it was perfectly normal, I won't even notice it.  I am, however, pretty much incapable of considering anyone under 15 that way, outside the "well, yes, obviously you kids will be married in ten years" message I'm sometimes supposed to get, and really usually can't consider romantic pairings, canon or fanon, under 16, with the exception of some mature 15 year olds.

And reviewing the above, it looks like most of my aversions(with the possible exception of the incest, though that's probably evenly split) can be boiled down to predator/prey.

So...thoughts?  Personal pairing type aversions?  Things that normally send you running but can work under strict guidelines?

Amazon is being very, very insistent that I would like this, containing what appears to be OVAs for the Tsubasa and xXxHolic animes.  I have not seen the anime for either series but plan to eventually.  Worth checking out?

(Mind you, Amazon is still insisting that I should read King of the Lamp, and thinks I need duplicate copies of various Cantarella and Tsubasa volumes I've bought from them, and has now added something called Satisfaction Guaranteed to the recs list, but...)
