Snagged from various places:

a) I want to talk about how my ships and concept of shipping varies with fandom, so name a fandom and I'll discuss what I ship and what shipping means to me in that fandom.

b) I have a lot of fandoms. Have you ever wondered about one of the fandom I sometimes mention on my journal which you don't know of? Ask me any question you want about them!

ETA: Spoilers in comments for Bleach(non-explicit), FMA anime (one plotline explicit) and Twelve Kingdoms anime(non-explicit).
(Or if you see something in my tags or interets and I never talk about it, so you have no idea what I think about it, or whatever. Uhm...depending one what (a) is, you may or may not get a slightly wordier "bzuh?")

Youko/Keiki erally bothers me, actually. Even more than the slash ships, one of which involves a kid. So much of Youko and Keiki's relationship involves the fact that he seems to have chosen her (I tend to think that the kirin are drawn to people who suit their wants, which is why Keiki's kings were women who were easily led and dependent) because he could control her, and shape her into what he wanted. And yes, I can understand the whole bit where she grows strong and forces him to get ober that, but at the same time, the root of their relationship seems to be that he saw her as someone to be controlled and manipulated.

Mmmm that's an interesting point of view. I've never really considered the kirin actually having selfish motives, since I've never really questioned the fact that they have to obey the mandate of Heaven when it comes to choosing their Masters. After the choice has been made there might be subtle manipulation, but not when the choice is being made. Keiki did say before that he had felt that he was making the wrong choice with his previous mistress, and had he the capacity, would not have chosen her. His actions after, however, were definitely dubious, to say the least. He seems to have a tendency to encourage emotional dependence, and I certainly have issues with his lack of transparency. I'm almost sure the author didn't mean to portray him as being flawed in any other way except being socially inept and overly reticent, but it's most tiresome at times.

To be honest, Keiki isn't a character that appeals to me as a whole. Interaction-wise I think he's boring, character-wise he has too few personal characteristics.

Oh dear Shouryou/Enki and Gyousou/Taiki. I don't ship them as romantic pairings at all but I absolutely ADORE their relationships, especially the latter, which never fails to drive me to tears no many how many times I reread the novels.

I don't think it's selfish, aso muc as instinctive, especially when you also have Taiki, who wanted a protector to keep him self, or Enki, who wanted no king at all, but more a caretaker. If you looks a the various kirin/king sets, the kings seem matched to the kirin in most cases. I think it's that the kirin is the land, so what's best for the kirin is probably what's best for the land, too.

Keiki redeems himself a bit in the third book, then again having Taiki back made put him in a good mood.
