Seriously.  I haven't been this annoyed with a female character in an anime or manga since Azalie and Lycorice in Orphen and Orphen 2 a year or so ago(though I did like Cleao...I think I'm the only one in the world who does, though.)

Aoi is such an amazingly perfect and prim and talented lady that I can't help but think she's supposed to be the male ideal of a girl...if I'm right, I pity the males of the species.  I feel death by boredom is in their future.  I mean, this girl raised herself to be the perfect, traditional cook, housekeeper and wife because...he was nice to her when they were little kids?  Not because he grew up to be a great guy (though he did) but because of him as a kid.  And...she loves him because he was a nice kid, not because of who he is as an adult.  I swear, he could be an utter cretin and she'd be acting the same.

I mean...her idea of the proper way to celebrate HER birthday is to buy a pair of women's clothes she saw him looking at to...make him happy by wearing it.  I kid you not.  Because his happiness is the perfect gift for her.  And she's so modest that she can't wear her swimsuit at the beach, but she can if he'll go alone with you at night.  And I doubt she's aware that human beings have the ability to demand answers and stick up for themselves.  I mean, he stays out all night long and she hears about another girl kissing him(both against his will) and he starts never being home(working extra hours to buy her a gift) and she NEVER asks where he he was or what he was doing...I mean, seriously, WE know it was innocent on his part, but for all she knows, he was off participating in orgies.

Seriously, this girl is so amazingly lucky that Kaoru'sa such a great guy...I swear she'd be the world's biggest doormat with a less-nice guy, and would never lodge a single protest.  Actually, she IS a doormat...Kaoru just isn't the kind of guy to take advantage of it.

The sad thing is...I still kinda like it...I love Kaoru and Miyabi and the whole thing has this sort of charm...it's just so amazingly frustrating.

I'm not sure if [profile] calixatalking to me about good anime throughout helps or hinders the watching.  But I get more enjoyment out of it than I do the show.

Eight episodes left.  The scary thing is: I also have the sequel.  I curse my completist nature.

Part of my order from rightstuf's Del Rey sale a few weeks back came today and tucked into it was the first volume of the DearS anime in a paper sleeve, presumably as a "here's a free gift... please watch it and then buy the other 5 or so DVDs from us" thing.  I freely admit to dismissing this anime and manga in the past based on the cover and skimming the description.  Any opinions on it?

Ai Yori Aoshi is finally over.   The last 8 episodes were all about how every other girl is also in love with Kaoru, how Aoi is pure and perfect(there was an episode where she got sick so everyone else could talk about how wonderful and kind and talented and pure and hardworking she is...there may have been ff-ing on my part, I will neither confirm nor deny it) and then Aoi's father trying to marry her off to someone else only to have True and Pure Love Prevail.

I may have acquired cavities.

I REFUSE TO WATCH OR READ ANYTHING FOR AT LEAST A WEEK THAT DOES NOT HAVE TONS OF ATTITUDE, SNARK, VIOLENCE, ANGST AND PREFERABLY PEOPLE DYING AT THE ENDS OF SHARP AND POINTY THINGS!

Lined up to help me recover tonight are X: The Movie(you don't get much more angst and melodrama that X, if the series is anything to go by) the last disc of Season one of Farscape(explosions...I require massive ammounts of explosions) and chapter 4 of Shirogane no Karasu(is it posible to go wrong with Akimine Kamijyo?)

And posibly going over to play  with my nephew as a reminder that not all cute and sweet things cause hives.

Then wuxia.

Until the last few weeks, X: The Series was the sole exception to my no-Clamp rule of the last few years.  I could not help it...it was so pretty and there were swords.  Supposedly, it's all about the Dragons of Heaven and the Dragons of Earth battling over Earth's destiny and Doomed Love and best friends made enemies, but really, it's all about the pretty imagery and the amazingly glorious, melodramatic emo angst.  The kind you can't help but get caught up in (at least while you watch) even if you normally don't care about such things.

The movie, imo, didn't really deliver on any level to the same degree as the series (except body count, where it surpasses the series) but I enjoyed it.  Aside from "WHY WAS THERE SO LITTLE SORATA/ARASHI????" I have little to say, so I bring many, amazingly spoilery pics of X(basically a recap...) and the angst.

You may recall when I read the first 3 chapters, I was wondering about this guy:

He has appeared.  I love him.  I don't want him to be evil.

PS-I love Lu.  Not as much as Yuya, but it's early days yet.  Then again, I like most of Akimine Kamijyo's female characters...

I shall now wait patiently(HA!) for more scanslations.

After Ai Yori Aoshi, it is needed.  Ok, not really, but I don't really want to go too long with it being my most recent series, and I currently have no anime backlog, though I do have Hakkenden on its way.

But basically:

1.  Something short.  I'd rather of the 12-14 ep variety, but 26 is ok.
2.  Preferably samurai/fantasy/action.  I crave violence.
3.  And preferably snark/humor/attitude.
4.  Good female character(s).  Mind you, I'm fairly generous about what female characters I like, but Ai Yori Aoshi has me kinda picky about it now.
