So, I wrote 3 stories for Yuletide, all for The Vampire Diaries. They were also all pretty Caroline centric (and 2 platonic!Bonnie/Caroline centric) even though she technically wasn't in one. My main relationship investment in the show is the Bonnie/Caroline/Elena friendship, which is reflected in the fics, and two were almost more character meta than fic, though hopefully, the recipients didn't mind.
Also, my descriptions are not exactly awesome and my titles are on the manipulative a twee sides.

prozacpark: *links to Amazon* OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS?!
Me: *notes that web address includes the words "Vampire Diaries"* What level of trauma should I brace myself for?
prozacpark: 10! As far as Amazon covers go. Or more WTF?, and not actual trauma.
Me: *clicks link and girds lions with Leverage!Elliot vid s to "Holding Out For A Hero"*
Me: Is...is that apple bleeding?
It totally is!

Also, a quote from the first review:
I don't know much about the cliche girl-and-her-vampire storylines, but I'm beginning to suspect that LJ Smith might have written the book on it (literally!) so it's very possible that this is the start of all the, "But if you're a vampire, and you hate being a vampire, and you don't want ME to be a vampire, then I should be a vampire with you so we'll never be apart!"
I...assume we read different books? Because regardless of what actually happens, I'm pretty sure neither version of Stefan or Elena wants her to be a vampire. Actually, I can't think of any LJS heroines who started human and actually wanted to be vampires for any reason but impending death. As in "Oh yes, you are 17 and will die of cancer in a few weeks." And she had to be talked into it, at that. There is also a TV!fandom opinion that Stefan and Elena will become suicidal if the other dies. I'll assume that these people are terribly confused and think "Vampire Diaries" is another name that "Twilight" goes by.
A pondering about Vampire Diaries for somewhere in the next few eps that has nothing to do with the three main characters. And a spoiler that does.
KW: Well, certainly not with those two characters, I’m sad to say so we’ll just have to dream about that. If I bring on a gay character onto our show…I’m really not interested in a coming out storyline because I’ve done it [on Dawson’s Creek with Kerr Smith’s Jack character]. A coming out storyline doesn’t really excite me. Bringing a gay character to me would be incredibly exciting but I just want to do it right and I want to do it when it feels good and not force it and bring them on just to have a gay character. I want something I can really dive into and relish. We have Caroline’s Dad in the wings. He is set up to be gay and in a relationship with another man and that’s really all we know about Caroline’s Dad. He is a founding member so I do envision a day when he comes onto the scene and wreaks havoc.
Below the cut is a graphic floating around a bit that's commenting on numerous character deaths in The Vampire Diaries.
A large part of the problem with Damon is that he has virtually no control over his emotions. The fact that he doesn't scream or cry of rant or talk about his feelings doesn't mean he doesn't have emotions, because the majority of his actions are emtional reactions. He deals with annoyance, pain, rejection and grief through destruction, murder, assault, manipulation and rape. (And then he does them for kicks, too, unless he's in the mood to behave for a few days.) If you're a mystery he arranges for someone to possibly die (or for one of you to be seriusly hurt) to find out your secret. If you say you don't love him, he brands you a slut. If you reject him, he murders the person you love most. If he finds out you dumped him, he abducts a bunch of college students to turn into his rape and abuse victims for the weekend. If your ancestor ruins his plans, he rips your throat out. If you and your boyfriend interfere with his plans, he assaults you and threatens to turn you into a vampire to make your boyfriend do what he wants.
That is not someone who is emotionless or in control of their emotions. That's a volatile person with little self-control whose instinctive reaction is to hurt others more than he's been hurt, and who makes no effort to curb that instinct.
Then there's this thing, which has been making the rounds yesterday and today. I think it was intended to highlight how writers frequently fail to even bother with female characters, but instead ends up depicting female characters (and actresses) as nothing but one-note stereotypes, ignoring anything about them save for what can be crammed into the stereotype. I could say plenty, but there are already a lot of extensive posts floating around. inkstone links to a bunch here. Feel free to link to more.
